Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Research Governance Manager to join the Research & Innovation team at University Hospitals Birmingham. This is a key operational leadership role with responsibility for the effective management of research study set-up and Capacity and Capability activity across the Trust. You will oversee workload and prioritisation, provide operational leadership to the team, monitor performance against local and national targets, and provide assurance and escalation to senior R&I colleagues. The role requires confident decision-making on complex governance and set-up issues, leading service improvement where processes, standards or timelines need strengthening, and translating regulatory and policy changes into practice. We are looking for an experienced research professional with strong leadership, judgement and stakeholder-management skills who can take ownership of a busy service and help shape the next phase of UHB's study set-up improvement programme.
Main duties of the job
You will lead the operational management of research study set-up and Capacity and Capability activity across UHB, with responsibility for ensuring studies progress efficiently, consistently and in line with national and local requirements. You will directly manage staff within the Research Governance Team, oversee workload and prioritisation, monitor performance and provide assurance and reporting to senior R&I colleagues. The role will require you to make and support complex governance decisions, resolve escalated set-up issues, challenge poor practice and lead service improvement where standards or timelines are not being met. You will also contribute to the development of policies, systems and processes, oversee key aspects of cost recovery and work closely with sponsors, investigators and internal teams to remove barriers to delivery. We are looking for an experienced research professional with strong leadership, judgement, negotiation and change-management skills who is confident taking accountability for a busy operational service.

Main duties of the job
- Work with colleagues develop and implement communications and engagement plans for different HRA projects, reporting on these where relevant.
- Plan and deliver events with external stakeholders and members of the HRA community, including workshop sessions and webinars, that support the HRA's policy development and increase our influence to deliver our mission.

- Work with colleagues develop and implement communications and engagement plans for different HRA projects, reporting on these where relevant.
- Plan and deliver events with external stakeholders and members of the HRA community, including workshop sessions and webinars, that support the HRA's policy development and increase our influence to deliver our mission.
- Monitor issues affecting our stakeholders, and developments in the wider health and social care research environment. Share this information, showing how this impacts the HRA.
