An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the team on Ward A700, at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, for 12 months.
A700 is a 26 bedded in-patient ward specialising in Head and Neck and Thoracic surgery, both elective and emergency. You will be part of a team that is committed to providing high quality, safe and compassionate care. You will be supported to develop specialist clinical skills including airway management, intercostal catheter management and complex analgesic techniques.
Main duties of the job
Your duties will include;
Working cohesively with all members of the ward, and multidisciplinary, team.
Taking charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients, prioritising workload as clinical needs change.
Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care from admission to timely transfer or discharge.
Delegating tasks to a range of team members.
Maintaining accurate and timely nursing documentation in line with the Trust standard.
Promoting and maintaining a safe environment.
Acting as a professional role model, setting standard of practice and promoting clinical effectiveness.
Participating in audit, and the education of others including students and unregistered members of the nursing team.

Communication and Relationship skills:

Administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy.
Promote a clean environment and the prevention of hospital acquired infection

Identify record and report all incidents/complaints involving staff, patients and visitors in accordance with Bristol NHS Foundation Trust policies and assist in any investigations as required.
Assist with the smooth running of the clinical area by carrying out other duties such as unpacking stores, tidying and cleaning up equipment.
Leadership and Management:
Act as professional role model/team leader setting standards of practice promoting clinical effectiveness and opportunities for teaching others as part of a 24hour service
Act as a role model including mentor for learners and junior staff.
Take day to day responsibility for the clinical area or sub team in a Ward or Department setting or for the total patient care or care of a group of patients in a critical care setting as required and prioritise effectively
Develop clinical reasoning skills, ensuring that when a patients condition is deteriorating this is communicated to other members of the healthcare team and acted upon in a timely manner.
Participate in the collection of audit and research data as required.
Support the ward sister / charge nurse with effective use of resources e.g. staffing, supplies, stores.
Work with senior nurses to develop management skills.
Actively manage own annual leave in line with Trust and local Policy and Procedure.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our dynamic and accredited Liaison Psychiatry Service. Due to the rapid expansion of our Cardiac Surgery research portfolio, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic cardiovascular nurse to join our Cardiac Surgery Research Team. Successful candidates will be involved in a range of clinical trials, involving mostly cardiac surgery patients. Experience in the speciality of cardiac surgery will therefore be essential. You will be working closely with a large multidisciplinary team, including clinical academics, university and commercial trial teams. Ability to engage supportively and effectively with patients and clinical staff will be essential in ensuring that our studies are well delivered and the standards of care of care for our study patients is exemplary.
Training and development will be a key focus in ensuring the successful candidate can develop their expertise in clinical research, within a supportive environment.
Seeing the patients safely through the trials offers lots of patient contact, but additionally the role provides the opportunity to be involved in many elements of the trials from study set up through to closure. This makes for a varied and interesting career choice. Excellent communication skills are essential as a key area of the job is to facilitate the informed consent process.
Main duties of the job
- Assist in the overall set up, organisation and delivery of clinical trials ensuring adherence to ICH-GCP standards within the Research Governance framework and adhering to other related regulations/SOPs.
- Work closely with other research team members, using clear lines of communication with the wider clinical care team and support departments to ensure each patients smooth and safe journey throughout the studies.

We have an exciting opportunity for a compassionate, motivated and innovative nurse leader to join our small, friendly and committed team in a Supervisory Sister/ Charge Nurse role at Weston Oncology and Haematology Day Unit.
Our lovely 9 chair unit delivers SACT and supportive therapies to patients with haematological and oncology diagnoses. Building relationships and delivering person centred care is at the heart of the support we offer to patients throughout their cancer journey.
Experience of cancer nursing and SACT delivery are desirable for this role, but not essential as we have a wide range of educational opportunities available to a candidate with proven leadership and strong management skills. This role will be closely supported by the Cancer Matron based in Weston, Lead SACT Nurse for the Trust, the nursing leadership team of the Day unit at BHOC, and the Specialised Services Head of Nursing Team.
Main duties of the job
Provide Supervisory support to a team of registered nurses and health care support workers
Clinical delivery of nursing care to patients receiving SACT and other supportive therapies
Unit management of rosters, risk assessment, datix, appraisal, HR, recruitment, leave, budgets, patient safety, quality improvement projects

Job summary
The main chemotherapy unit plus our teenage/young adult area are based within the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre. We also offer a community based service at two satellite centres in Bristol - one in South Bristol Community Hospital in Hengrove, and the other in Concord Medical Centre in Bradley Stoke. Staff will be expected to work between the main unit at BHOC and at least one of the satellite units.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and experienced candidate to join our team as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse. We open 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday across all of our sites. This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments in a busy outpatient setting.
Main duties of the job
As a senior member of the nursing team you will be responsible for coordinating the day to day running of the unit, ensuring the safe delivery of SACT in line with national and local policies. You will act as a clinical role model, providing leadership, support and supervision to junior staff while promoting a culture of continuous learning, quality improvement and compassionate care. You will deliver complex patient care, manage unwell patients and treatment-related toxicities, provide patient education and support, and contribute to service expansion and development.
The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with post-registration experience in oncology/haematology or chemotherapy services, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding care. UK SACT competency and experience in mentoring or supervising staff are essential for this role.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced member of critical care staff to take up a role as a Transfer Practitioner, working for Retrieve (Severn Base).
Retrieve is the South West's dedicated Adult Critical Care Transfer Service, commissioned by NHS England South West Specialised Commissioning, hosted by Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and supported by the South West Critical Care Network (SWCCN). We are looking for a registered critical care practitioners who can deliver high-quality transfer care to critically unwell patients across the South West.
Retrieve began in November 2020, one of the first dedicated Adult Critical Care Transfer Services in the country. This truly ground-breaking service has been responsible for creating a blueprint for the national specification. Retrieve's achievements have also been recognised by being awarded the BMJ 2021 Critical Care Team of the Year award and the Intensive Care Society Impact award 2022
Retrieve provides a single point of contact for all adult critical care transfer referrals 24 hours a day via a dedicated 0300 number. All calls are managed by a Duty Consultant who triages, coordinates and can provide remote decision-support if required.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 Transfer Practitioner, following completion of the appropriate additional training, you will assume responsibility for the specialised care required to transfer critically ill adults. There is an expectation that you continue to develop your clinical and management skills by demonstrating an ability to work remotely in the referring centres, in partnership with the local teams.
On occasion, the role involves working independently, providing Practitioner-delivered transfers of Level 2 (high dependency) and Level 1 (ward level) patients. This is supported remotely by the Retrieve Duty Consultant and will typically involve collaborative working with a doctor from the referring hospital.
You will be expected to support and mentor new members of the multi-professional team, demonstrating an active role in the ongoing education programmes.
In partnership with the SWCCN, the post holder will support the relationship between the Service and referring centers.
Supported by the Lead Nurses and Senior Transfer Practitioner, successful applicants will be involved with service projects, audit and research, delivery and completion of education and outreach.
There will be a requirement to work shifts including nights, evenings and weekends, with the occasional potential to overrun. There will be a requirement to work with highly infectious patients and therefore a necessity to comply with infection prevention and control guidance.

Main duties of the job
As a Bank Registered Nurse, your responsibilities will include :
- Supporting all clinical areas of the Trusts as and when required.

Job summary
An exiting opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Nurse or Midwife to work in the Pregnancy Advisory Service (PAS) at the Central Health Clinic and WISH clinic.
PAS is a Nurse delivered, Consultant covered, service based at the Central Health Clinic and WISH. The role involves patient consultations, ultrasound scanning, informal counselling, sexual health screening, giving contraception advice and consenting for abortions.
May include some evenings & travel to Weston General Hospital.
Observation shift recommended prior to application/interview - please contact to arrange.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a full range of nursing skills within the Pregnancy Advisory Service. This may include evenings.
- Provide a confidential and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services including use of Fraser Guidelines.
- Administer and / or issue prescribed medication as appropriate following NMC professional guidelines, working from PGDs or Non-Medical Prescribing as appropriate.
- Use professional judgement to seek advice or refer to medical colleagues.
- Be aware of and adhere to NMC, Trust and Directorate policies and procedures.
- Adhere to departmental protocols, procedures and guidelines for clinical care in order to ensure that a high standard of care is delivered to all service users.
- Perform testing, obtain swabs and specimens as appropriate and provide advice and information to patients regarding cervical cytology.

Whether you are an accredited ACP or an experienced clinician looking to undertake the ACP training pathway, you will play a key role in developing this new service and influencing the future of advanced clinical practice within urology.

Main duties of the job
You will provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with acute, elective and emergency urological conditions, working autonomously within an agreed scope of practice across inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory settings.
Working closely with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate patient care, request and interpret diagnostic investigations, develop evidence-based management plans and undertake advanced clinical procedures appropriate to your competence.
You will also contribute to service development through quality improvement, audit and the implementation of evidence-based practice, while supporting education, leadership and the continued development of advanced clinical practice within the Urology service. For trainee ACPs, the role includes supported completion of an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and development towards independent practice.

Due to the rapid expansion of our Cardiac Surgery research portfolio, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic cardiovascular nurse to join our Cardiac Surgery Research Team. Successful candidates will be involved in a range of clinical trials, involving mostly cardiac surgery patients. Experience in the speciality of cardiac surgery will therefore be essential. You will be working closely with a large multidisciplinary team, including clinical academics, university and commercial trial teams. Ability to engage supportively and effectively with patients and clinical staff will be essential in ensuring that our studies are well delivered and the standards of care of care for our study patients is exemplary.
Training and development will be a key focus in ensuring the successful candidate can develop their expertise in clinical research, within a supportive environment.
Seeing the patients safely through the trials offers lots of patient contact, but additionally the role provides the opportunity to be involved in many elements of the trials from study set up through to closure. This makes for a varied and interesting career choice. Excellent communication skills are essential as a key area of the job is to facilitate the informed consent process.
Main duties of the job
- Assist in the overall set up, organisation and delivery of clinical trials ensuring adherence to ICH-GCP standards within the Research Governance framework and adhering to other related regulations/SOPs.
- Work closely with other research team members, using clear lines of communication with the wider clinical care team and support departments to ensure each patients smooth and safe journey throughout the studies.
- Co-ordinate arrangements for patients participating in clinical trials, according to study protocols, and communicate all necessary information to relevant personnel.
- Work as a team to deliver on larger trials, with more independent working on a portfolio ofsmaller studies.
- Work closely with Trial Managers, Investigators and other members of the wider study team, to trouble shoot issues with trial conduct or blockages to recruitment and work together to resolve these issues.
